FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday October 14
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

Four players joined tonight's Fed Phrase Game in Studio 1. Smitty, Celia, Djmayhem, and Gandolf played. And Smitty sweetened things up by putting up a slithy tove as the prize for tonight's winner. I went over how to play for Celia, and anyone else who needed a refresher on the rules. We then set the playing order, which went Smitty, Djmayhem, Gandolf, Celia, and began the game with a 4 word phrase (5, 4, 3, and 4 letters).

Smitty started the first puzzle finding a few consonants and buying a vowel before an L missing from the puzzle ended his turn. Djmayhem found a letter for 450, but then an N ended his turn. Gandolf's first spin landed on Lose a Turn, and Celia's first pick was a D not in the puzzle. Smitty tried an M next, but there weren't any, giving the puzzle back to Djmayhem, who placed two more consonants, then solved - every step you take - for 1600 points.

Our second puzzle was a 4 word thing (3, 10, 4, and 11 letters), and Gandolf was up next to start it. Gandolf tried an R first, but there weren't any in all those letters on the board. Celia got a hold of the puzzle, and didn't let go until she had solved it, racking up 7450 points in filling in most of "The occasional loud exclamation" before solving.

The third puzzle was a 3 word thing (7, 8, and 9 letters), with Smitty up first to start it. Smitty kept this one all the way through, racking up 6200 points and two free spins in finding all the consonants and buying the E's and A's enroute to solving "Central Research Institute".

Tonight's fourth puzzle was a 6 word phrase (1, 6, 4, 3, 5, and 2 letters), which Djmayhem got to start. Only he started with a Lose a Turn, followed by a Bankrupt from Gandolf. Celia found a couple letters before missing with an F, allowing Smitty to get hold of the puzzle with two free spins carrying over. After finding 3 L's, 3 B's, and buying the O's and A, Smitty picked an H not in the puzzle. He didn't hesitate in using one of his free spins to continue, and placed two S's, bought the E, placed the D, and then the Y before solving - A mobile dust bin rolls by - for 3200 points. That also gave him the lead in the game with one puzzle to go.

Our fifth and final puzzle tonight was a 5 word thing (5, 9, 4, 5, and 4 letters), and once again we started with Djmayhem. Dj found the S, T's, L's, and R's before landing on a Lose a Turn. Gandolf took over and found an N, but then missed with an H. Celia got a chance at the puzzle and spun 1000. But her pick of an M was not in the puzzle, and Smitty took over. He added a Y for 1000, bought the O's, found a W for another 1000 and bought the E's, placed an F for 750, then bought the U, at which point he decided to solve - newly-developed live astro-turf - for another 2000 points.

That brought us to the end of tonight's game. Finishing in third place was Djmayhem with 1600 points. Grabbing second with one big puzzle was Celia with 7450 points. And tonight's big winner, Smitty, came from behind to take first place with 11400 total points. Congratulations to Smitty, who won the slithy tove! And thanks to all our players for helping to make tonight's game. The next Fed Phrase Game is scheduled for October 28 at 10 p.m. Eastern. You can also join us on October 21 for FEDPARDY!
