HOW CHARMING!

by Hazed

Last week I told you that Alan plans to convert all of the keyring charms into real, physical objects. Now I can give you the details of the conversion plan.

At the moment, keyring charms bought from Anton Gallagher's high end store on Earth are stored as flags in your Fed2 character's persona record. Flags determine something about your character - for example, a flag says whether you are insured or not, or whether someone is a member of staff. Charms as flags are inflexible which can be a good thing - once you have a charm you cannot lose it accidentally - but also a bad thing - I can't add commands to charms so that you can manipulate them or use them.

Alan will be converting all of the charms into objects this week, in batches of 10 at a time. The new objects will be put into your ship locker, assuming there is room - so if your locker is currently filled with junk, clear it out now! There are 32 charms in total, and a locker holds up to 50 items, so if you have the full set of charms you'll need to make sure there are fewer than 18 things cluttering up your locker.

The first batch will be converted on Monday, then assuming that goes alright, the rest on several days later in the week.

When the objects are created, the original flags will not be switched off right away, so you will be able to compare the charms-as-flags with the charms-as-objects - type 'EX ME' to see a list of all the charms-as-flags.

Once the objects show up in your locker you will be able to take them out and carry them around with you. The plan is for a new version of the 'WEAR' command (which is currently disabled) to allow you to select which of the objects in your inventory are visible to other players - more on that when Alan has coded it!
