REAL LIFE NEWS: TWO STRANGE ANIMAL STORIES

by Hazed

Our real life news stories are all about nature this week, with two tales of animals (not tails) and one about trees.

First, a news article from Italy where a flock of confused sea turtles marched into a beachside restaurant, much to the astonishment of diners.

Female sea turtles nest on beaches and when their offspring hatch from the eggs, they instinctively head to the sea. But about 60 newly-hatched turtles lost their way and walked into the restaurant, presumably lured off course by the bright artificial lights. They ended up under the tables, before being rounded up and released into the sea where they belonged. They are lucky the chef didn't have turtle soup on the menu!

Our second animal story features a suspected llama. What, you may ask, is a suspected llama? Maybe the llama is disguised as another animal, hiding its identity to confuse the authorities. Maybe it's like bigfoot or the chupacabra, something that doesn't really exist.

This vague llama was the apparent cause of a car accident reported by the wonderfully named Pratt Tribune. A pickup was destroyed by fire following a collision - the story says - with a suspected llama. The driver and passenger escaped unhurt but the driver has been arrested on suspicion of being drunk.

The story goes on to describe how the pickup was driving along when it struck the (and here's that phrase again) suspected llama. It went off the road one way, the driver overcorrected and it went across the road into a field, where it caught fire.

Now, you might think this business of the suspected llama is just the drunken driver's excuse for wrecking his car. No, it wasn't my fault, it was... erm... yeah, this llama came out of nowhere, that's right, I couldn't avoid it, it jumped right at me, honest. But according to the news report, a llama has been seen lurking in the area in the last couple of weeks, and there were tracks at the point of impact that don't look like cattle tracks.

The llama wasn't found at the scene, which is why it's just a suspected llama, but evidence at the crash site indicates it might have been injured.

Hey, wait a minute, maybe it's called the suspected llama because it's a suspect in a crime...
