KEEP YOUR TAT SAFE IN A SHIP STORAGE LOCKER

by Hazed

Now that most of the objects you can pick up in the Solar System are persistent objects, that don't vanish at reset, you can end up hauling a load of stuff around with you. With the recent introduction of weight restrictions, which mean you can only hold one third of your strength, you may well find that your inventory fills up and you can't carry any more.

So you are going to have to pick and choose which of the bits of old rubbish in your inventory you keep, and which you discard. That's not hard when your items are easily replaceable - after all you can always grab another umbrella off the monorail on Earth, coax another marsrat into your pocket, or buy a new top hat - but what about those valuable but rare items like the stardust, or Freya's prize mug? Having to choose which of your irrepaceable items you can do without is going to be a nightmare.

Well, worry no more, because now there is a place you can stash all the items you don't want to get rid of, but don't need to carry around with you at all times: a storage locker in your ship.

The command to put an object in your locker is 'STASH objectname'. There is no limit to the weight of the items you can put in your locker, but it will only hold 50 objects - it is not a locker of infinite size.

To get something out of your locker, the command is 'RETRIEVE objectname'. You have to be able to carry the item, otherwise it stays in the locker until you dump something else to lower the weight of stuff in your inventory.

You can look at what's in your locker with 'DISPLAY LOCKER'.

You have to be in your ship to do anything with your locker - my request for a delivery service, where a droid runs down the road to the spaceport and takes a shuttle to your ship to do the work for you was sadly not granted.

Non-persistent objects will not remain in your locker when the game resets; if you put a piece of old cheese into it, it will rot away and all you will be left with is a lingering odor.

Your locker is, itself, persistent and if you sell your spaceship it will be transferred to the new vessel with its contents intact. Likewise, if you die when insured, the locker and the objects therein will be recreated along with your new body as part of the cloning service.

Ship lockers will come into operation in the next few days - look out for a post on the noticeboard telling you when you can start using them.
