REAL LIFE NEWS: PHOENIX MADE IT!

With appalling bad timing and no respect for my deadlines, the Phoenix landed on Mars several hours after the publication of last Sunday's Fed2 Star. By now, you are sure to have read the reports and seen the pictures that Phoenix has sent back. You can get the most up-to-date info here and see a set of pictures here.
Even more incredible, Phoenix's descent was itself photographed by the HiRISE camera on board the Mars Reconnaisance Orbiter. A photo of the Heimdall crater on the surface of Mars shows a tiny smudge, which in close-up you can see is the Phoenix's parachute, with the lander itself underneath it.
