THE SKY DID NOT FALL

by Hazed

The taxman returned last week, and despite all the dire predictions of pessimists and rabble-rousers, he was greeted by nothing more than a heavy sigh and a resigned shrug on the part of most Fedders. A few attempts to organize some kind of Martian tea-party style protest came to nothing.

Likewise, the return of the bad effects of disaffection didn't affect very many people at all. There was just one shareholders' rebellion and two planetary riots, so clearly most people had paid attention to the warnings and made sure their dis was low to non-existent.

Speaking of taxes, I have been asked by a couple of players about the problem of the taxman popping up again after a crash, to tax people even when they have been taxed that day already. While this double-taxation is obviously very annoying - nobody likes being visited by the revenooers - in the long run it really doesn't make any difference. If you have money over the tax threshold, then it doesn't much matter if you get taxed on it today, tomorrow or the next day - unless you intend to spend it on something, it will be whittled down by the taxman eventually!
