CRYPTOGRAMS

Saturday October 13
by Catspaws

After several gameless weeks, four brave souls showed up for what turned out to be a very interesting game of Cryptograms. Several of the players were new to Cryptograms, which made it even more exciting. Hopefully, they have caught the bug and will play in future weeks.

It has been much too long since I was a manufacturer, but who can forget the fun of hauling inputs, starting wage wars, and finding new markets for tquarks? So, this week's puzzles were dedicated to those brave manufacturers who make our planet economies run so smoothly. We salute you!

Fancy, Chriseli, and Lagkiller managed to solve the first puzzle, which involved the names of manufacturers, and Cronos only missed one.

The Names of Manufacturers (WHO MANUFACTURER)
OVKKBAW
RABKKLF
JNARLQS
LAJLSQ
JQLSCQNW
HNNFP

Fancy, Lagkiller, Cronos and Chriseli managed to come up with the next list which involved profitable or popular factory commodities.

Profitable or Popular Factories
NXRKVNTRB
VKXHLNUUB
INIVNDXKTB
RWONXJB
FMIMEMUHB
DKMTMFEMIHIRB

Fancy, Cronos, Criseli and Lagkiller solved the next puzzle, which involved commands.

Commands Manufacturers Use
NIHFZN JFMDYNT
WIEE WCFNIW
XBT DNIFWBNT
JNIIKI MYGHFST
BHANFVI WDYNFAI
VIMEFNI XFSUNBHDMT

The next puzzle was a fun one for me, because I scrolled the list of company names to dig out some of the more interesting ones. Fancy, Lagkiller, Cronos and Chriseli finished in that order.

Interesting Company Names (DI COMPANIES)
XMMHFRG TXMHFRG XIK.
RXGKN ROKU EPR.
KXFKEQ PHUQG PSQ GZOHFQ, EPR
PSQ ENOGV P-GSXFP KNJCHIV
PSQ YFXLLXI KNJCHIV
GPXIL NY PSQ EHGS, XIK.

The final puzzle fell very loosely into the "Think Like the Kitty" category, dealing with things manufacturers worry about. Although a little more difficult, Fancy, Cronos, Lagkiller and Chriseli managed to solve the puzzle.

Things Manufacturers Worry About
KZGTQQPBLZNS
GDTHPDNUKPH HZNLG
QTBLNHW KPLPHZNHTLZNS
BNUUTEGZSY KPENLG
TXTGGZSY GDTHPG
EHNQZLTIUP QTBLNHZPG

When the scores were tallied, Fancy came in first with a perfect score, Lagkiller squeeked past Cronos for second place, earning one of my special reproducing slithy toves, Cronos came in third, and Chriseli finished fourth.

Join me each Saturday at 4.00pm eastern for Cryptograms. And for those who are a bit rusty, you can practice using the puzzles in the past issues of the Star. Who knows, you might be the next person to kick Fancy off his throne.
