REAL LIFE NEWS: OPERATION BY CELL PHONE

by Hazed

Normally cell phone are frowned up on in hospitals on the grounds that they can mess up all the electronic equipment that goes Ping and keeps people alive. But in central Argentina, hospital patient Leonardo Molina owes his life to mobile phones.

The 29-year-old was on the operating table in the Policlinico Juan D Peron, the main hospital in the small city of Villa Mercedes, when the power went out. The generator did not cut in as it was supposed to, leaving the operating theatre in darkness. This was not good news for Leonardo!

Then somebody had a brainwave - he went out into the hallway and collected mobile phones from people waiting there, took them back into the theatre, and used the backlight from their screens to illuminate the patient. The surgeons were able to finish the procedure and Leonardo lived to tell the tale.

It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "telephone operator"!
