FFEDPARDY

Tuesday August 14
by Fancy-Fancy, Mogul of Toontown

We got three players for tonight's Fedpardy. Nolepaul, Genike, and Butters came to the studio to play, with Tomahawk looking on. I refreshed Ike on the rules, and then told everyone tonight's categories. They were: X Marks the Spot, "Con" Games, Paradise City, and Things a Trader Would Know. Genike ended up winning the first selection, and with everyone ready to play, we began the game.

Genike selected X for 5 to start the game, and immediately found the first Daily Double. He decided to risk all he could on it (5 points), and this was his answer:

The commodity groups without at least one commodity name containing the letter X.

Genike responded with, "What are leisure, and Agri?", but those were not the two. Leisure was right, but the other was tech, so it cost him 5. Undaunted, Ike selected X for 4, but he responded incorrectly to that, too. Nobody tried the 3, but Ike got the 2, and then Butters the 1 after Ike missed it. Butters selected Things a Trade Would Know for 5 next. All three tried that one, and missed it to lose 5 points each. Butters recovered 4 points after Nolepaul missed it. Genike got the 3 point answer, and Butters the 1 to bring us to the break. Butters then was in the black with 1 point, to -9 for Nolepaul, and -10 for Genike.

Genike got the first pick of Double Fedpardy as the one trailing, and chose "Con" Games for 10 to start Double. However Nolepaul and Genike both responded incorrectly for -10 each, and Butters and Genike both missed on the 8 before Genike responded correctly to the 6, 4, and 2 point answers. With Paradise City the only category left, Genike again started with the highest numbers and worked his way down. He tried the 10 pointer, but responded incorrectly. Everyone passed on trying the 8, and Genike then found the other Daily Double under the 6. Betting the maximum 10 allowed for his situation, this was his Daily Double:

More than a dozen of these are precariously piled in a heap. Some spill out across the table, some boast the remnants of wax seals and ribbon. None seem to be in any language you can read.

Genike responded with, "What is letters?", but the correct items were scrolls, so he fell further back. As it became apparent that there weren't enough points left on the board for anyone to finish in the black, Butters commented, "This is sad, Merv Griffin died Sunday and we disgrace his legacy with all negatives... for shame." Butters attempted the 4 point answer, but got it wrong. And we finished up Double Fedpardy with Butters and Nolepaul both responding incorrectly to the 2 pointer. At the end of Double Fedpardy, the scores were:

Butters: -13
Nolepaul: -21
Genike: -36

This marked the first time ever that nobody qualified for Final Fedpardy. I did let them all play the Final Fedpardy answer and question for fun, though, told them the category of Species in Fed, and when all three verified they were ready, presented the answer:

Not counting player characters, these two worlds have cats that you can pet (or at least attempt to).

Butters chose Litterbox and Catseye, but those were not the two. Genike initially chose Doris and Selena, then changed it to the Pearl and Selena. His change got one of them right, but not both. Nolepaul picked Mars and Earth, again one right, one wrong, so nobody got the Final Fedpardy question correct, either.

We'll play FEDPARDY! again on August 28, starting at 10.00pm eastern in Studio 1 on the Lattice. And on the 21st, join me there same time, same place, for the Fed Phrase Game.
