FEDERGORIES

Thursday June 28
by Cloudbase

The theme for this week was a choice between two subjects, the appointment of a new Prime Minister here in England, or the annual celebration of the Declaration of Independence in the USA. It was a no contest really, the Declaration of Independence being far more interesting!

Five players joined in the fun: Sean, Jessecka, Trenchion, Lucyn and Boone entered the contest to fight it out and walk away with a slithy for taking first place.

The first round was to name a US President whose first name begins with a 'J'. Jessecka, Trenchion and Lucyn all came in with unique answers and gained a point , Sean and Boone matched on James Garfield. Sadly we had to say goodbye to Jessecka at this point, but at least she retired from joint 1st place! Round 2 was to name a US State that began with the letter 'N'. Trenchion the only scorer with a unique answer. Round three was the first Fed category of the night giving our players the opportunity to score double points by providing a location starting with the letter 'D' on Sumatra, however no was able to take advantage. Round 4 saw us searching for other US public holidays, each player scoring this time. Round 5 also saw each player taking a point.

So at the half way point it was all to play for, Boone having scored 2 points, with Trenchion, Lucyn and Boone in a three way tie for first place.

Baseball games are a feature on Independence Day and we sought teams that play in the National league, Lucyn, Boone and Sean each gaining a point in Round 6. Weather permitting a lot of you will be firing up the BBQs on Wednesday, so we wanted to know what you might be cooking on them, starting with the letter 'B'. We discovered that Trenchion will be cooking up BBQ Ribs, whilst Lucyn will be sampling Bison Burgers! Should the weather turn a little inclement, no doubt the family will be indoors and board games are always a popular diversion, so for the next round we sought them starting with the letter 'M'. All 4 players provided unique answers, though no had heard of Seans!

In gaining Independence, the US annexed itself from the British Commonwealth, but we tried to find countries that remained under its protection, starting with the letter 'B', and this being a bonus round, gave the opportunity for someone to break away from the pack. Sean and Trenchion matched each other out, Boone gaining a point whilst Lucyn gained 2 points. Round 10 saw us seeking commodities starting with the letter 'S' with sensamps being the popular choice. The last round was again a bonus round and also a token gesture to the alternate theme, British Prime Ministers. All of Sean's answers matched with other players, Lucyn gaining a point, Trenchion 2 and Boone making a late rally with 3 points.

Tension mounted as the scores were totalled, third place going to Trenchion with 7 points, Boone's late rally not quite enough to take 1st place, scoring 8 and this week's winner with 9 points Lucyn who walked away with the crown and a Slithy Tove!

Congratulations to all who took part, especially Lucyn this week's winner.

If you would like to win yourself a slithy, you can do so by playing Feddergories next Thursday at 10.00pm eastern.

Finally, a very Happy Independence Day to our American cousins.
