FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday June 26
by Fancy-Fancy, Mogul of Toontown

Six players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of the Fed Phrase Game, with a slithy tove on offer for the winner. Garioso, Desaxman, Trilleth, Denntairn, Yodabunny, and Stiddleficks all came out to try their luck with the wheel and see if they could solve tonight's puzzles for enough points to claim it. Everybody seemed to know how to play already, so we went right to determining the order of their turns. Dennotairn got first in the order, followed by Desaxman, Yodabunny, Garioso, and Trilleth. Stiddleficks arrived later and was added after Trilleth.

Our first puzzle tonight was a 6 word phrase (5, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 6 letters), and Dennotairn got to start it. Dennotairn started off with 4 S's for 450 each and an R before he took a P not in the puzzle. Desaxman took over and found a couple T's, a couple N's, and three M's, then bought A, E, I, and O before landing on a Free Spin. However his choice of G to pick it up wasn't in the puzzle. Yodabunny had to scoot before Desaxman's turn was over, so Garioso took over next. Garioso called the L, C's, and B's, then decided to solve - munch on some stale biscuit crumbs - to take round 1 for 3100 points.

Tonight's second puzzle was 5 word things (7, 7, 6, 3, and 5 letters). Trilleth was next in the queue, and got to start this puzzle. She found 4 S's for 600 points each, only to land on Bankrupt with the next spin, turning the puzzle over to Stiddleficks, who couldn't find any R's. Dennotairn found 3 T's, but no L's on his turn. Desaxman got hold of the puzzle, and with spins landing on 750, 500, 600, 750, 500, and 400, called P, M, G, A, D, N, and C, leaving only vowels. He solved correctly - ancient postage stamps, and coins - for 5900 points for round 2.

Tonight's third puzzle was also 5 word things (4, 6, 9, 7, and 8 letters), and Garioso was up first to start it. His first spin was a Bankrupt, though, so Trilleth effectively got to start it. She found the S's, T, and R, but missed with a D. Stiddleficks was not present, so Dennotairn got a shot. He placed the L's, C's, N's, M, O's, E's, and G's before trying a J that was missing from the puzzle. Desaxman took a shot with a P, but there were none in the puzzle. Garioso got the puzzle back and added a K. He bought the I's for the last of the vowels, and then added the H's and V, leaving one letter in the puzzle. Asked for the scores, I found that Garioso with 3100 prior and 2200 in the round was 600 points shy of Desaxman's 5900 points. Garioso spun once more... and landed on 600! He called the Y, and then read the puzzle to solve - some highly eccentric looking vehicles - for 2800 points, and an overall tie!

I gave the players one more puzzle tonight. Its category was on the menu - 4 words (7, 2, 1, and 6 letters). I presented this puzzle without its dashes, figuring that would be a dead giveaway (anyone know the solution just from that?). Trilleth got to start this puzzle, but couldn't find an R. Stiddleficks was gone for the night by then, so Dennotairn got the puzzle next. He found an S and T, but no W's. Desaxman got the next shot at the puzzle. He chose N, A, B, and K, then solved - chicken in a basket - to take Round 4 for 1450 points, the overall victory, and the slithy tove prize!

Congratulations to Desaxman, tonight's top winner in an exciting edition of the Fed Phrase Game, and winner of a slithy tove! His score was 7350 points. Garioso was the runner-up with 5900 points. Join me again on July 10, beginning at 10.00pm eastern, for our next exciting edition of the Fed Phrase Game!
