REAL LIFE NEWS: SNAILS... IN... SPACE...!

As Scotty's ashes return to Earth, an unmanned spacecraft has taken off from Kazakhstan headed to the International Space Station. The ship contains 2.5 tons of supplies to keep the crew of the ISS healthy and happy: food, fuel, air, water and other vital supplies and equipment. And some DVDs to keep them entertained. And books and magazines.

And one other thing. 50 snails.

The gastropods are to be studied in experiments on tissue regeneration in zero gravity.

That's what they say, but if the food supplies include garlic butter, the snails may just be at risk of ending up as a gourmet feast - gastronomic rather than gastropodic!
