WHEN REAL LIFE IMITATES FED: REMOTE HUGS

by Hazed

There's all kinds of futuristic things in Fed2 that don't exist in the real world. Some of them are fairly obvious advances, some are stolen from science fiction books and movies, and some come straight from the brain of the great green goddess Bella herself.

So it's always surprising when something that Bella made up actually makes it into the real world. In a case of real life imitating Fed, a company has come up with a way to emulate the remote hug feature that we've been using for years.

The hug shirt allows wearers to send hugs over distance to other people who are wearing one. The shirt has sensors embedded in it that feel the strength of the touch, the skin warmth and the hearbeat rate of the sender, and actuators that recreate those sensations - touch, warmth and emotion - to hug the recipient.

Take a look at http://www.cutecircuit.com/now/projects/wearables/fr-hugs/.

Thanks to Gandolf for alerting me to this invention.
