REAL LIFE NEWS: STUDENTS NEVER HAVE TO GET OUT OF BED AGAIN, EVER

by Hazed

Essex University in England intends to start offering students the opportunity to gain a degree without ever having to attend a lecture, or even turn up at the university at all. Yes, you can stay in bed and still graduate, by taking the university's first complete online degree.

Students will be able to join the course, which runs for 52 weeks, at several times during the year. Online classes at specific times will use audio and chatrooms to get staff and students together - so you do have to keep some sort of schedule, but can certainly do everything in your pyjamas.

Initial courses begin in July and will include Business and Management, Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Sales Management, and Internet Marketing. Students who pass the Foundation course are expected to be able to take a third year top-up course in order to get a Bachelor's degree.

This is a new initiative for education in the UK but nothing special in the US, where seven percent of post-secondary school education is now done online.
