REAL LIFE NEWS: SEE, I TOLD YOU GOING TO WORK WAS BAD FOR YOU

by Hazed

Proof, if we needed it, that going to work is really bad for your health comes from the Medical Research Institute in New Zealand, who have discovered that workers who spend excessive amounts of time at their desk may have a higher risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

DVT became a worry a few years ago when it was shown that economy-class long-haul air travellers were particularly prone to these dangerous blood clots because they spent long hours sitting in the same position with no space to stretch out their legs.

Now the New Zealand team has examined a sample of 62 people admitted to hospital with blood clots, and found 34% had been sitting at their desk for long periods, but only 21% had recently travelled on a long-distant flight. Apparently, some of them were remaining at the desk for three to four hours at a time without getting up.

Professor Beasley, the lead researcher, said the problem was particularly common in call centres.

There, I knew it! Going to the office can kill you! Another reason to stay home and play Fed all day instead. Just make sure you move your legs from time to time.
