RIOTING: THE FACTS

by Hazed

So, riots are now turned on for resource planets that let their disaffection get out of hand. Agricultural planets don't have to worry about riots, although as you approach promotion you should make sure that your disaffection is low or non-existent lest there be a riot right after your promotion.

Here's a repeat of the information about how disaffection and rioting works. This will be added to the Idiot's Guide shortly.

Your disaffection figure is affected by the infrastructure builds that you carry out. Some builds increase disaffection and some decrease it; the absence of some vital builds can also increase disaffection. You need to look through the information about the builds in the Idiot's Guide at http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/guide/builds/list.html to see which ones have a positive effect on disaffection, and which ones have a negative effect.

The disaffection figure is a percentage, and the higher it gets, the higher the chance that your population will riot. Every day at reset, the game decides whether there's a riot or not – a 20% disaffection figure means there's a 20% (1 in 5) chance of rioting on your planet.

If the dice roll is against you, and there is a riot, you will be sent some in-game mail telling you what happened. Everyone else can read about your troubles in the SpyNet Financial bulletin. There are a number of consequences when your citizens go on the rampage.

First, you are going to lose some stock because one of your stockpiles will be wiped out at random. That always happens when there is a riot, because as well as the genuinely outraged protesters there are always opportunists who look for things to loot.

As well as the loss of the stockpile, one of the following will happen:

  • One of your infrastructure builds will be sabotaged, and will have to be rebuilt from scratch
  • A factory on your planet will get razed to the ground
  • A depot will be torched
  • A warehouse will be looted then destroyed
  • Disaffected hackers will hack into your planetary treasury or your personal bank account and embezzle between 30% and 60% of the balance

Pretty serious stuff – particularly if the loss of an infrastructure build makes disaffection even worse! You're also not going to endear yourself to CEOs if they lose property because of your mis-management.

So from now on, you need to pay attention to your disaffection levels, and keep your populace happy.
