FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday March 6
by Fancy-Fancy, Engineer of Toontown

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's Fed Phrase Game. Captainfuzzy, Bourbon, and Desaxman all came to play. All three knew how to play already, so we got right to deciding the order they would take turns (Captainfuzzy, Desaxman, Bourbon), and then playing the game.

Tonight's first puzzle was 4-word things (7, 7, 3, and 9 letters), with Captainfuzzy starting. He started by finding 3 N's for 1000 points each, only to land on Lose a Turn with his next spin. Desaxman took over the puzzle, and went the rest of the way with it, calling S, T, I, R, M, A, O, C, and E before solving the puzzle - methane-covered ice mountains - for 2850 points.

Bourbon started the puzzle for Round 2, which was 6 word things (4, 10, 3, 3, 5, 9 letters). He found a pair of T's for 800, but no C's to end his turn. Captainfuzzy found 6 R's for 400 each, only to land on Bankrupt this time with his second spin. Desaxman got ahold of the puzzle, and like in Round 1, went the rest of the way with it. He called D, N, A, S, P, E, H, and O, then decided to solve - Mars Pathfinder and its rover Sojourner - for 5000 points more.

Our third puzzle was a 5 word phrase (7, 3, 10, 3, and 6 letters), and we were back to Bourbon to start it, which he did with a Bankrupt. With that spin out of the way, Captainfuzzy put together an impressive string, uncovering N, S, D, E, T, H, R, I, G, C, and A for 5450 points, but then called L, which was not in the puzzle, and turned it over to Desaxman. Desaxman decided to solve it without spinning, and did so - dancers are performing the cancan - for a house minimum 250 for Round 3.

Tonight's fourth puzzle was a 3 word name (5, 6, and 5 letters), and Bourbon got to start it. He mentioned a sense of deja vu about starting the puzzle, and spun up 450, but for zero T's. Captainfuzzy spun 1000, but couldn't take advantage with M. Desaxman got the puzzle, and called a string of correct letters with R, S, A, N, O, E, H, and P for 2700 points, then tried to solve, but did so incorrectly. Bourbon got the puzzle with just two blanks left starting the first and second words, and found a W for 150 points, then solved correctly - Isher Weapon Shops - for a house minimum 250.

Our fifth and final puzzle tonight was 5 word things (7, 3, 9, 8, and 9 letters). This time it was Captainfuzzy starting the puzzle. He found 6 N's for 400 each to start, then the D's, S, A's, and T's, before calling an L not in the puzzle. Desaxman got a chance, but there were no R's in the puzzle for him. Bourbon got the puzzle and filled in P, G, E, H, C, X, I, V, and M, giving him 5950 points with two blanks left, at which point he solved - ancient and scavenged exchange equipment - to win Round 5 for that 5950 points.

I tallied up the scores, and Bourbon had solved 2 puzzles for 6200 points for second, and Desaxman had solved three for 8100 total points to be tonight's big winner. Thanks to Desaxman, Bourbon, and Captainfuzzy for playing tonight's game. Join me again on March 20 for the next edition of the Fed Phrase Game. And don't forget FEDPARDY! on March 13, in Studio 1 on the Lattice.
