CRYPTOGRAMS

Saturday March 3
by Catspaws

As a planet owner, I am very appreciative of the manufacturers who use their skills to build enormous eyesores they call factories on my planet. Don't get me wrong - I love the fact that they fill my deficits, thus enabling me to sit back in the Hair of the Dog and sip my spiked cream. But it seems the factory owners on Catseye have resorted to using mousetraps to keep their factories rodent-free, thus making pickled mice a rarity of late. Why, I'm down to my last three barrels of the delicacy, and Constance is threatening to raise her rates in the Pub. Please, I beg you, manufacturers of Catseye, don't use mousetraps!

As a show of appreciation, I dedicate this week's games to the manufacturers of Fed, and specifically to those who have factories on Catseye. Enjoy!

I was pleased to notice another feline joining us this week, but I have to wonder if Fancy and Maiza had a test to see who was the dominant male, since Fancy was noticeably absent. Maiza did remarkably well, however, and I warmed up to this feline by the end of the game, so much so that I had Munchkin bring over some packets of catnip to share with my new friend. I look forward to seeing how well he does in weeks to come.

Zand, Cloudbase, Ariadne and Supermayman solved the first puzzle (can you believe Zand solved it first?) which included the names of some of our current manufacturers. I'm so used to Zand coming in third that I was in shock for a moment.

Names of Fed's Manufacturers (Who Manufacturer or Di Companies):
TVHZQEFXEFP
OLLUX
YFUAZI
XLAFYVPPX
AQFSLPTUFXZQ
NGPDGHZQ

Ariadne and Zand switched places in the second puzzle, which Maiza finished. Captainfuzzy showed up near the end and solve two of the entries before time ran out.

Favorite Factories for Manufacturers (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/guide/companies/inputs.html):
HFRKUHZRG
RJBHFCG
QHQPUHDFKZG
UKFIAHXXG
BQKYHRPFG
QHQPG

While there are a lot of popular factories, there are a few that you will rarely see built, because there is just not a lot of profit. Everyone solved this list, with Ariadne finishing before Zand to put herself in a tie with Zand (?!) for first.

Least Profitable Factories for Manufacturers (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/guide/companies/inputs.html):
QBFDEIMST
ABIOME
NCJDE
EMWC
IDGIBQDE
DQDSIOME

Ariadne picked up a couple more points with the next puzzle which stumped Maiza. (I think he was in a 'nip daze, but I can't be sure...)

Commands for Manufacturers (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/commands/index.html):
BPFNGOP CGIEOSZMFR
AOPPJP FTLZGIR
WDDSP BWHWBPIB
BWDZNGR GFFTSIMD
SZVOGBP DMTOGVP
CSR MOPGDSOR

Normally the final puzzle is a "Think Like the Kitty" puzzle, but I would hate to be predictable, so this week I went with the equally annoying Company Names puzzle. Ariadne finished first again, securing her lead.

Company Names for Manufacturers (Di Companies):
WYLKONUL OU ASYEKSH
WAVJKSSA OUR
MYAYREOR LVUEYC RNHQ.
MKNLEL H PL, AAR
KSHS'L TNKUUV!, RNHQ.
BOAASHDYUOY YUX ROHRPOEGNHM AEX

Tallying the scores, Ariadne came in first, Zand made second place his own for a change, and Cloudbase walked off with the third place trophy.

Join me each Saturday at 4.00pm eastern for Cryptograms, and please, don't forget to bring the 'nip!
