CRYPTOGRAMS

Saturday February 17
by Catspaws

Cryptograms was in Invasion Mode again this week. Our target was the Refectory on Scotia, since Gwaptiva wasn't looking. If you like mess hall cooking served by soldiers wearing skirts - or kilts, as they call them - this is the place to go. (The kitty is not responsible for any damage incurred during these invasions, by the way.)

We had a nice group this week, which made the kitty purr. The gaming events in Fed are always more fun when we have a nice group of players. Fancy, Zand, Supermayman and Desaxman didn't have much trouble solving our first puzzle.

PLAYER NAMES THAT CONTAIN THE LETTER "K":
MBFVJ
MHOSVJ
EFEDMESV
MIHEDMUFEKVZ
WEUOTME
JLPQQMO

Continuing with the Letter "K", all six players were able to solve the list of commodity names included in the second puzzle.

COMMODITY NAMES THAT CONTAIN THE LETTER "K" (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/guide/trading/commod.html):
UIFNQUSGVK
VSZMEJEJGK
RJHNKZIGV
OPKJVK
CJGVNR
RSCDSQJV

Commands proved a bit more difficult for Caesar, but everyone else solved this nice little puzzle.

COMMANDS THAT CONTAIN THE LETTER "K" (http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/commands/index.html):
GRUZK
NEAVZ
ZQKK
WQVZEX
RZRWHGQ
TQVZHT

System names puzzles are harder, because you have to sort through the entire DI SYSTEMS display, but five of the six players finally figured them out.

SYSTEM NAMES THAT CONTAIN THE LETTER "K" (DI SYSTEMS):
FZTKJYDNF
KTDSGKTDN
QPBPNE
NPGVPK
NKSSZ
NTZFGKYQ

Our last puzzle was a fairly easy puzzle for those who read the Fed Star each week.

THINGS FOUND IN THE FED STAR (http://www.ibgames.net/fednews/current/index.html):
YWJFWJZ FVYJ
GDGJQ XGRVXQH
RVHQH VB QUG YGGL
VBBWNWSK JGYH
XGSK KWBG JGYH
BGF BTJJWGH

When the scores were tallied, Fancy came in first, as usual, while Desaxman garnered enough points to take second place, relegating Zand to his usual third place position.

We play Cryptograms each Saturday at 4.00pm eastern. If you want to practice, you can always solve puzzles found in the back issues of the Star. With enough practice, you just might be able to steal Fancy's crown!
