FEDPARDY!

Tuesday February 13
by Fancy-Fancy

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of FEDPARDY! Ariadne, Djentsch, and Zand all came to the studio ready to play tonight's game. They all assured me they knew how to play, so I went right to tonight's categories. They were: Love is in the Air; Asteroids; Let's Go to the Moon, Baby; and GroundHog Days. The players then spun the wheel to determine who would get to select first. Zand won that honor, and started the game by selecting Let's Go to the Moon, Baby for 1.

The first selection got passed on by everyone, and the first points came from the 2-point answer in that category. Djentsch got it after Zand missed it. Djentsch missed the 3, and Ariadne got the 4, then found the first Daily Double. She decided to make it worth 1 point, and this was her answer in Let's Go to the Moon, Baby:

A lounge has been filled with these for the workers of the colony. It's an opportunity for even the lowest paid workers to be entertained and gamble away their groats.

She responded, "What are slot machines?" to get it right. Ariadne then selected Love is in the Air for 5, and Djentsch rang in and got that one. He then started the Asteroids category. Zand missed on the 1 point answer, but made up for it by collecting the 2. He then found the other Daily Double under the 3 point answer, and decided to make his wager 2 points. This was the answer from Asteroids:

A fierce-looking woman with a clipboard asks you what business you have visiting, and when you cannot give a satisfactory answer, she gestures you towards the door back to reception, in a very peremptory manner.

Zand couldn't come up with a response, though, so it cost him. Djentsch collected the 4 point answer from Asteroids to close out the first half and led 8-5 over Ariadne, with Zand in the hole at -3.

As the one trailing going into Double Fedpardy, Zand got the first selection of the round, with all remaining point values doubled. He picked Love for 4, and everyone passed on trying it. Ariadne, however, rang in on the 6 and got it, and started the GroundHog Days category for 6. DJ got the 6 and 8 point answers there, with Zand scooping up the 10 after Ariadne rang in but couldn't come up with it. DJ then got the 4, and Ariadne the 2 in GroundHog Days. Ariadne selected the last two in the Love category, with no one attempting the 8 point answer, but DJ getting the 2 after Zand missed on it. That left Asteroids for 10, which no one tried, though DJ rang in just a little too late for the chance to respond to it.

At the end of Double Fedpardy, the scores were: Djentsch 28, Zand 5, Ariadne 3. All three advanced to Final Fedpardy, with the chance to wager as many of those points as they desired, with the category of Commodities to help them out. Once the contestants had registered their wagers and verified they were ready, I presented tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

This commodity is used as an input in the greatest number of commodities when made in factories, including all the agricultural commodities.

The last few seconds of the 60 seconds allowed saw some frenetic action to get responses in. With time up, I started with Ariadne in third place to see what her response was - "What are petros?" And that was correct. Her wager was 3 points, doubling her score to 6.

I moved over to Zand next, and he also had written down, "what are petros?" His wager of 5 points doubled his score to 10.

That left Djentsch, the leader coming in. He also came up with, "what are petros?" His wager was 8 points, giving him 36 total, and this week's Fedpardy championship.

Congratulations to our Finalists in this week's Fedpardy. Djentsch finished first, Zand second, and Ariadne third. I awarded Zand the slithy as the highest placing non-staff player. Join me again on February 27 at 10.00pm eastern for our next exciting edition of FEDPARDY! And join me on the 20th for the Fed Phrase Game.
