CRYPTOGRAMS

Saturday November 4
by Catspaws

It has been a while since I last visited Sumatra. Every time I visit, I have to tear down more of the Wanted posters the Sumatra Water Authority keeps putting up. You'd think they'd give a kitty a second chance. It was an adventure, but I finally managed to elude the guards and find my way to Chez Guevarra, and I swear I only flushed the toilet there once... or maybe twice... certainly not more than a dozen times. Anyway...

A nice group of players joined me for some good barbecue and a fun game of Cryptograms. As well as our regulars we had several who had never played the game before, so it was lots of fun.

A recent addition to the game was the promotion to Engineer of many of our Founders. As a tribute to these talented planetary economics geniuses, the first few puzzles where dedicated to them. Ariadne, Zand, Genike and Oberon guessed the names of all six engineers listed in the first puzzle.

ENGINEERS IN FED2 (WHO ENGINEER):
JIUGCUXY
ZUXYBQX
KQVJQG
HEWGHEX
RWGYQJ
LWXQNQXI

Zand, Genike, Ariadne and Oberon snapped up the names of the six resource commodities listen in the second puzzle, giving us a two-way tie for first going into the third puzzle.

RESOURCE COMMODITIES:
AFLRJN
KNNEWQ
XEAEVENJQ
SKMFEKLIFBJQ
QJXFLEAMPLIESQ
VJISELZJXFLKNQ

The names of six of our resource planets were given in the hardest puzzle in this week's game. But eventually Zand, Genike, Ariadne and Oberon figured it out, enabling Zand to pull ahead a bit further. Quite an accomplishment for the guy who usually comes in third!

RESOURCE PLANETS (DI SYSTEMS):
HFCI
XAHS
XHAIK
WMORQ
BFVMHAD
FHDFICF

Last week I spent a grueling few days working the Graveyard puzzle. It was so intriguing, I had to include the planet in one of our Cryptograms. Zand, Ariadne, Genike and Oberon managed to solve the puzzle centered around what can be found on Graveyard. This gave Zand a three-point lead going into the final puzzle.

FOUND ON THE PLANET GRAVEYARD:
DTNQM / KWWI
SPFOVN
AFNQCV
XWDZTVN
DFLNWCVLD
AWPGNVN

For the final puzzle, I took the players on a field trip to a new planet which had opened the same day, Tara in the Glory system. Down from the shuttle pad we found one of the most horrifying places you can imagine, the Peking Moon restaurant. Our final puzzle revolved around the items found on the menu in this nasty little restaurant. Zand, Ariadne, Oberon, Genike, Caesar and Dakine all solved this puzzle.

PEKING MOON MENU ITEMS (FOUND ON THE PLANET TARA DOWN FROM THE SHUTTLE PAD):
OGDDB / VFFMIPP
JVVR / HMGVJ / ZVQPVMN
NGLZVNV / NIYR
HVPGWV / SCIQ / ZVGW
LPZIWJ / OGDDVW
NQVVD-W-NIYM / FLMHGVPJ

When the scores were tallied, Zand came in first and won the slithy tove, Ariadne came in second, and Genike came in third. Join us each Saturday at 4.00pm eastern for Cryptograms, the brainiest game in Fed.
