FEDPARDY!

Tuesday October 24
by Fancy-Fancy, Engineer of Toontown

Five players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of Fedpardy. Kblackdragon, Occy, Genike, Smitty, and Grewl all came to the studio. Smitty, Kblackdragon, and Genike played the game, while Occy and Grewl watched in the studio. I went over the rules of the game for our new players, and when I was satisfied that everyone knew how to play, revealed tonight's categories. They were: Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, The A Team, and Music in Fed. The players spun the wheel for the honor of picking first, and Kblackdragon won that. I had one other announcement for tonight - I had been provided a slithy tove to award to tonight's winner!

Dragon started by selecting The A Team for 1. Smitty rang in to get it for the first point of the night, and stayed with the category, as did the others until it was finished, with Dragon picking up the 2, Smitty the 3, and the 4 after Ike missed it, but Ike rebounded to get the 5 point answer. Ike started the Men are from Mars category next, with the 5 point answer. He rang in to respond correctly to that one, but missed the 4, and the 3, which Dragon picked up after Smitty also missed it. Smitty came back to get the 2 point answer, and Dragon the 1 as we came to the break. Smitty led with 7, to 6 for Dragon, and -1 for Genike.

Genike got to select first in Double Fedpardy as the one trailing going into it. Ike selected Women are from Venus for 6 to start Double Fedpardy, and rang in to get it, too, pulling him out of the hole. He followed that up by finding the first of two Daily Doubles. He immediately decided to make it a true Daily Double by risking 5 points, and this was the answer:

You climb onto the back of this legendary beast, and dig your heels into his sides. "Gee up, horsey," you cry. Nothing happens, but then, you wouldn't expect it to, because he's dead. Such a vicious, dangerous creature when he was alive, who would have thought he'd ever allow anyone on his back?

Genike correctly responded, "Who is the Pegasus?" to double his score. The 10 point answer ended up getting passed, with Ike trying to ring in to respond just a little too late. (He would have had it, too.) Dragon promptly rang in on the 4 pointer and got it, and Ike did the same on the 2 pointer to finish the category, leaving only Music in Fed. Ike started that category with the 10 point answer. Smitty tried it, but responded incorrectly, dropping him into a hole. Nobody else tried it, and Ike selected again, this time finding the other Daily Double. Ahead 12-10 over Dragon, Ike decided to risk just 1 point on Music in Fed, and this was the answer:

The Lucky Seven Saloon has a bank of holos showing Elvis singing "You ain't nothing but [this]".

Ike responded correctly with, "What is a Groundhog?" for 1 point, and a 13-10 lead. Smitty rang in to pick up the 2 point answer, and Genike the 4. The 6 point answer got passed on by everyone, bringing us to the end of Double Fedpardy. The scores then were:

Genike: 17
Kblackdragon: 10
Smitty: -1

Genike and Dragon advanced to Final Fedpardy, with the opportunity to wager as many of their points as they desired. They had the category of "Don't Try This at Home" to help them decide their wagers. Once the wagers were decided, I explained how Final Fedpardy would work, and our Finalists verified they were ready, I revealed tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

As you reach for this you feel a sharp pain in your arms, as if something was trying to chew your hands off. You scream and let go...; the pain fades away, but you are left with a feeling of overwhelming fear.

Kblackdragon responded with, "What is the ATM?", but that wasn't right. Dragon wagered all 10 of his points, dropping down to zero.

Genike tried, "What is the Opal?", but that was likewise incorrect. I had pulled "of the trophy" from the above clue, and that was describing the zlitherworm head. Genike's wager was 4, leaving him with 13 points. That made him this week's Fedpardy champion, and winner of a slithy tove!

Congratulations to Genike, this week's winner! Kblackdragon is the week's runner-up, and Smitty finished third. Join me again on November 7 (Election Night in the US) for our next exciting edition of FEDPARDY! And join me on Halloween night at 10.00pm eastern for the Fed Phrase Game. Trick or treat...
