FED PHRASE GAME (Early Edition)

Wednesday 4 October
by Gwaptiva

Word about the early edition of Fed Phrase Game has spread quickly, as six players showed up for this week's version. The wheel determined the order in which Schuyler, Dunavant, Lliakel, Emie, Gilar, and Occy would take turns, and with Oris and Catspaws as spectators the game got underway.

Schuyler got the first game off to a slow, but steady start, his first two choices in a 6 word phrase only resulting in one letter for each. But Schuyler asked for a letter that wasn't there, turning the game over to Dunavant, who got one letter, before handing control to Liakell, who quickly solved it, scoring 1000 points.

Dunavant started the second round, looking for a four-word Thing, getting one letter before being unable to secure a free spin, giving Liakell another chance. After a little ruckus caused by a rather cantankerous feline, Liakell very shrewdly worked her way to the solution, taking her lead over everybody else to 2300 points, and it was looking good for her as she would start the third game.

However, after revealing a single letter, the dreaded wheel made her lose her turn to Emie, who steadily started to construct the six-word thing we were looking for. Then, with really only one word still to be discovered, she lost her turn, and Gilar solved the puzzle for the 750 points, nibbling away at Liakell's lead.

Emie went in search of the solution to the fourth puzzle, a four-word phrase, one that almost everybody must have seen at some time of their lives in FedSpace. However, she wasn't to know this, and despite keeping her turn alive by using a Free Spin picked up earlier, she lost control to Gilar. Liakell suddenly got really excited as she spotted the answer, but it wasn't her turn so she could only watch on as Gilar lost his turn to Occy, who in turn lost control to Schuyler, who managed to spin Lose a Turn and gave Dunavant the opportunity to solve the puzzle, which he did, scoring his first 750 points.

Gilar got the next round off to a wobbly start, but even he couldn't handle the whims of the wheel, and after Occy turned Bankrupt, Schuyler managed to solve the puzzle, getting him off the dreaded duck's egg and straight into second place behind Liakell, with one more puzzle to go.

Occy's run of bad luck with the wheel continued, losing his turn after getting off to a solid start. Schuyler too found what a fickle mistress the wheel in Studio 1 really is, and everybody was holding their breaths to see if Dunavant could beat the game and the wheel to overtake Liakell. But his luck held out and with some very shrewd selections, he solved the puzzle, taking the overall victory by the smallest of margins, 50 points, over Liakell, with Schuyler coming in third.

A fabulous game, enjoyed by all, and it will start all over again next Wednesday at 3.00pm eastern (8.00pm UK time, and 21:00 CET), in the same place, Studio 1 on The Lattice, with the same host, Gwaptiva. And there will be a slithy tove up for grabs.
