FED PHRASE GAME EARLY EDITION

Wednesday September 27
by Gwaptiva

FedSpace is a big place. Very big indeed. So big that it had to be split into time zones, and that means that some of its inhabitants are asleep when events take place. Of course, Catspaws has been running the wonderful Cryptograms on Saturdays for a long time, but the powers that be thought it would be nice to add another fun event to this.

And so it was that an anxious debutante host made his way to Studio 1 on The Lattice on Wednesday evening, more-or-less ready to present an installment of the Fed Phrase Game. To his utter amazement and delight, three participants showed up for the event, eager to give it a go: Medrwyn and Liakell, and a little later, Dunavant, who has since strenuously denied he merely showed up because he had been promised a kiss from the host.

After a quick recap of the rules (by the contestants to the host, mostly), the game got underway. Medrwyn thought this would be his lucky night, spinning the highest number and being allowed to start the first puzzle, having a wonderful go at it, but being stumped on the last two letters, lost his turn to Dunavant, who promptly ran away with all the points. Dunavant got to start the second puzzle, and it was smooth sailing for him all the way through from start to finish, amassing more than 2000 points by solving it correctly.

Medrwyn and Liakell were yet to score, with Dunavant already on 3200 points, but now it was Liakell's turn to spin the wheel, and she kept spinning and spinning and collected 3250 points, taking the lead. Medrwyn found that his luck had run out, because right after getting the first letter of the third puzzle, the wheel came to rest on "Lose a Turn" and even after playing his "Free Spin", the next spin turned up "Bankrupt", and the control passed to Dunavant, who promptly spun up "Bankrupt" as well, handing the game to Liakell who made no mistakes and raised her total to 4000 points by completing the puzzle.

For the final game, it was decided the contestants would spin for the highest number once again, and this time Liakell was allowed to go first, and with a great deal of skill (and not a little luck too) she managed to complete the puzzle, taking the overall victory and became the latest owner of a wonderful slithy tove.

And this wasn't just a one-off: From now on, Fed Phrase Game will be run every Wednesday at 3.00pm eastern (8.00pm UK time, 21:00 CET), hosted live from Studio 1 on the Lattice by everyone's favorite Scotian, Gwaptiva. Come along, bring your fun hats and have a go.
