ENGINEERS AND THEIR PLANETS

by Hazed

Promoting to Engineer will give you extra goodies when it comes to planetary design and construction. Engineers are given an extra 30 locations to play with. You don't have to do anything to claim the extras - you can just expand your planet or space map, up to a total of 80 locations for the whole system, and then submit it to be linked to the game as usual.

If that's not enough space for you to expand into, Engineers can also buy a further increase. Pay two slithy toves and you will get another 30 locations, bringing your total allowance up to 110 locations. If you want to do this, add the extra locations to your maps and when you send them to feedback, say in the email that you want to buy the extra locations (making sure you have the necessary slithies, of course).

The plan is for Engineers to be able to write events to make fun things happen on your planets. However, we're still working on that - we need to make quite a few changes to the tools that we use to write events, before they will be ready to be given to players. They need to be thoroughly tested to make sure they are robust enough to work when "ordinary" players use them, and the test team also need to test-drive the manuals and tutorials which teach you how to write events.

However, if you are desperate to have some events on your planet, don't forget that you can ask us to add them for you, by purchasing some custom objects. Although this facility was introduced with the assumption you'd want to use it for role-playing objects, in fact players have been much more creative than that, and have come up with ways to use custom objects in puzzles. You could also add a talking mobile to your planet (although mobiles cannot move yet so perhaps they should be renamed immobiles!).

Information about adding custom objects to your planets is on the custom objects web page.
