ARACHNOPHOBIA

by Jessecka

Wandering the spaceways one day, it suddenly came to me that I hadn't been to Magrathea in quite awhile. I stomped on my space brakes, and turned my spaceship around, heading at light speed for the furthest reaches of Sol. Yes, I know, light speed is rather slow for me, but ever since that whole police debacle and being caught flying while painting my toenails, I've tried to improve my space speeding.

I arrived on Magrathea to find the place pretty much deserted. I suppose it was after hours and all Slarti's employees had gone home for the evening. That was fine with me, as it is always easier to poke my nose where it doesn't belong when no-one is around to tell me no. I wandered around the mini planets for awhile... sometimes I can spend hours eating the Gingerbread Exchange on Candy!

Growing bored with the mini planets, I found myself drawn to Slarti's special workshop, the place where he creates wondrous animals, mountains and streams. (You know, he won an award for his work on fjords...) I rummaged around in the vegetation area for a bit before bouncing over to the animal section where I got the shock of my life! A SPIDER!!! Ewwwwwwwww! It dropped out of a tree and crawled all of it's hairy little twelve legs right down my body and into my pocket... like I keep food in my pocket or something. (Ok, so I keep some jellybeans... and a few sticks of gum... and maybe a biscuit or two... hey, sometimes I get hungry!) I began to gyrate and dance, trying to get the spider off me, as my screams of pure terror echoed across the workshop. The little bugger used all twelve legs to hang on for dear life. I grabbed for it, thinking perhaps I could toss it out of my pocket, but I never could get a good hold on it. I swear I could hear the little devil laughing at me. I almost squished it, but it kept scampering out of the way. Finally, my mind completely frozen in fear, I ran out of the workshop towards my ship and my ever ready can of Bug-Be-Gone. As I made my way out, the spider, most likely sensing the upcoming doom of the spray, made his exit. Or at least, I couldn't find him in my pocket or on me when I got to my ship. Let's hope he got off me as I left!

Hey.....is that a spiderweb I see under my ship's console?
