QUESTION OF THE WEEK: WHY DIDN'T MY COMPANY CYCLE ADVANCE A DAY?

After last Monday's reset, several CEOs asked me why their companies seemed to be stuck in a timewarp. One showed me her company display from before the reset, which said that accounts were due in 6 days; after the reset, instead of reducing by a day, it still said 6 days. Others confirmed that the same thing showed for their companies.

I knew this wasn't the first time it had happened, and I suspected it had something to do with Bella taking the monthly backups, but I wasn't sure what, so I quizzed her and she came up with the explanation.

I was right, it was caused by the backups, which Bella had done the day before on Sunday. This involves stopping the game from firing up right away after it closes down for the reset; the game is down for ten to fifteen minutes instead of the usual ten to fifteen seconds.

So why does that affect companies?

The company day will only change once every 24 hours. It's not changed every time the game fires up, otherwise if there was a crash, or if Bella had to do another reset, the day would advance more than once. So whenever the game fires up, it checks to see when the company day was last changed. It if was 24 hours ago, it'll assume it's a new company day; if it was less time than that, it'll assume it is NOT a new day.

When Bella holds the game down for a long reset, the game fires up 10 minutes or so later than it normally does. Therefore, when the next day's reset happens and the game checks to see when the company day was last advanced, it sees that it was not 24 hours ago - it was 23 hours and 50 minutes or thereabouts. So it doesn't count it as a new company day, so in effect the end of your company accounting period will be extended.
