WHERE THERE'S SMOKE, THERE'S A CONSPIRACY

by Jessecka

Another wonderful breakthrough has come to Fed this past week, with the introduction of builds, the first of which is Heliographs. From what I understand, which most know isn't very much, they are like signal towers, bringing your planet together to make it more productive. They are a more basic form of communication, but far ahead of the old smoke signal methods that were currently in use on player planets.

Before this, most communication on Agri planets was carried out using either carrier pigeons or smoke signals. Of course, this could be very frustrating, since most of the time pigeons got eaten by unemployed workthingies, and with woods getting so expensive on most Agri worlds, it was hard to work up a good spurt of smoke.

These new methods of communicating, while alleviating some of the hardships experienced by the population, have brought their own problems with them. It seems that many planet-owners were not aware of the limitations on the building of heliographs - only the first five have an effect on production. Several were destined to be ripped off, as they built and built, not realizing that the money was disappearing, yet no new communications towers were going up. Expecting to have signal towers dotting the countryside, they were horrified to find the money gone, and the workthingies sent out to actually complete the work lounging around, chatting and eating bonbons.

It has even been suspected that this is the work of an underground band of ex-signal fire tenders, angered at the loss of their former jobs, and ready to seek revenge. But of course that is not the case: these poor POs should have paid more attention to the details in the Fed II Star!
