ROLE-PLAY CLASS

Sunday April 30
by Catspaws

After a break for the holiday, the Role-play Class was back and met in our usual venue, Chez Diesel on Mars. We began the class by introducing the Role-play team, most of which was present. (Squeeky likes to skip class.)

For months now, there have been some role-play items to be found in Sol - a top hat, some catnip, a pair of tap shoes, a wishbone, a butterfly net, and most recent, a deck of cards. Items can be a lot of fun, can spark spontaneous role-plays, and be quite entertaining at parties... though they can get you into trouble if you pull them out at staff meetings. Ahem...

What is new is that Founders can now design and purchase unique items for their own planets. Each item costs two slithies. That's the basic cost. If you include extra commands, the cost can rise. The custom object page explains what you can and cannot do with your objects.

Lynnea gave a basic outline of planet objects and how they work, using the horse on Lair as an example. We also discussed the nesting doll on Marina, and possible reasons it costs 100IG to purchase, as opposed to the expected 10IG. Hint: what happens when you open the doll?

We discussed the fact that planet items should fit into the environment in which they are created. For example, how would a puppy fit into the theme on Catseye? They should be tools that enhance the planet's role-play, and should have a purpose.

As class closed, I encouraged everyone to practice with ideas for item construction, and see what they could dream up. The class will also be available to polish or fine-tune object ideas if needed.

The Role-play Class meets in Chez Diesel every two weeks. Join the Role-play Team on May 14, when Lynnea will conduct a class on Role-playing With Your Planet. Also, be sure to check out the Role-play Forum at www.icatz.com/fed2.
