FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday April 18
by Fancy-Fancy

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of the Fed Phrase Game. Lynnea, Necrose, and Honoria came to the studio to try their hands with the wheel. I explained how to play the game for Necrose, who I learned came along somewhat reluctantly with Honoria and Lynnea. With the rules explained, it was time to determine the order in which the players would play. Lynnea spun 300, Honoria a Free Spin, and Necrose 700 to make the order Necrose, Lynnea, Honoria. We then began our game with our first puzzle, a 2 word place (3 and 11 letters).

Necrose began the game by finding three individual letters, R, S, and T, for 2100 total points before missing with an M. Lynnea took over and promptly hit a Bankrupt. Honoria found a pair of N's for 1200, then bought a pair of A's for 250 before picking a G missing from the puzzle, returning the puzzle to Necrose. Necrose missed with an L, Lynnea with an F, and Honoria with an H before Necrose picked up a pair of free spins in back-to-back spins. He bought a couple vowels before spinning and missing with a V, and decided to hold onto his free spins. Lynnea tried a P, to no avail, and Honoria the same with a K. Finally Necrose filled in the last consonant with a J, and solved the puzzle - Ars Conjectandi - for 2100 points.

Lynnea started our second puzzle tonight. It was a 4 word phrase (8, 4, 11, and 7 letters). Lynnea started by placing an R for 150 points before a Bankrupt zapped her points and turn. Honoria took over and built up 3900 points with a pair of N's, S's, buying the E's and A, and pair of T's. She bought an O next, but there were none in the puzzle, turning it over to Necrose. Necrose found a P and two H's for 1150 points before a Bankrupt wiped that out. He used one of his free spins here, and promptly got it back by landing on another one and finding a D. He then collected some points to go with the free spins, finding G's, buying the I's, placing a W, and L's before solving - juggling with illuminated spheres - to win Round 2 for 1400 points.

Our third puzzle tonight was a 5 word place (7, 2, 3, 4, and 3 letters). Lynnea once again started the puzzle. After finding three T's for 2100 points, Lynnea's turn was again stopped by the wheel, this time with a Lose a Turn. Honoria spun, but couldn't find any N's in the puzzle. Necrose took over once again, and once again went the rest of the way with the puzzle, filling in all the consonants, then solving - Raiders of the Lost Art - for another 3850 points.

The fourth puzzle of the night was a 6 word phrase (4, 4, 3, 6, 4, and 9 letters). Once again, Lynnea started the puzzle, promptly landing on Bankrupt. Honoria spun, landed on 500, and placed an N before hitting a Lose a Turn on the next spin. Necrose got the puzzle and placed an S before himself hitting a Bankrupt. He decided to use one of his free spins, and found three T's for 2100 points before hitting another Bankrupt. Necrose decided to hold onto his other free spin, and Lynnea got the puzzle back. She promptly spun another Lose a Turn, and Honoria did the same, giving the puzzle right back to Necrose. Necrose placed the R's, L, H's, C's, O's, F's, and D's before landing on a Lose a Turn. Fortunately for Necrose, he did have that remaining Free Spin, used it, and decided to solve the puzzle - made from the finest dark chocolate - for 6650 points.

Everyone agreed that the game had gone on long enough, and Lynnea commented, "Just chalk me up for 3 bankrupts and 2 lose a turns", and Honoria added, "I think I have enough bruises," so we called it a night. Necrose, the reluctant first-time player, ended up sweeping the puzzles for 14,000 points and first place. Congratulations, Necrose!

Join me on May 2 for our next edition of the Fed Phrase Game, and by the time the Star comes out, our next edition of Fedpardy will be May 8, both at 10.00pm eastern, both in Studio 1 on the Lattice.
