ON THE WEB: GOOGLE MARS After the success of the Google Earth service, which lets you look at maps and aerial photos of our planet, Google has now introduced Google Mars. It's fabulous - a map of the Martian surface which you can scroll around, zooming in and out, and pointers to significant features like craters, dunes, landing sites for probes, and so on. There's several different ways to view the maps, and for some reason Google Mars defaults to showing you a highly colorful relief map where different terrain heights are shaded in bright, bright colors. But you can switch it to a standard eyeball-style view which is much less startling. It's great - go take a look at Google Mars and see if you can spot the Martian ruins! |
