FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday March 7
by Fancy-Fancy

Five players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's Fed Phrase Game. Nolepaul, Asterix, Lynnea, Honoria, and Prometheus all came to the studio, and Epi later came in to watch for a bit, while Kalandra and Robius tuned into the camera's live feed. I went over the rules for Asterix and anyone else who needed them, and with all questions about playing the game answered, it was time to determine the order in which the players would take turns. Asterix got the best spin, followed by Honoria, Prometheus, Nolepaul, and Lynnea.

Our first puzzle was a 4 word place (3, 12, 10, and 5 letters), and Asterix got to start it. Asterix racked up 2000 points and a free spin in his first three spins, then missed with an M on his fourth. He used his free spin and collected 450 more points before a missing P ended his turn. Honoria found a couple letters for 600 points and a free spin, and bought a vowel, before picking a D not in the puzzle. She decided to hold onto her free spin, and Prometheus took over. Prometheus found three T's for 1350 points and bought a vowel before his next spin landed on Lose a Turn. Nolepaul filled in all but one letter in the puzzle, but what a tough letter it turned out to be for our players! Here's what it looked like:

the breathtaking Kr_esinski cliff

Nolepaul tried to solve, but didn't come up with it. Lynnea tried a V, Asterix a W, Honoria a Q, and Prometheus a Y, before Nolepaul called Z to fill in that last letter and then solve it for 1500 points.

Lynnea started our second puzzle tonight, which was 6 word things (10, 3, 1, 3, 6, and 3 letters). With two N's and three D's, she quickly had 4400 points. She bought the A's, of which there were five, and the I's of which there were none, ending her turn. Asterix got the puzzle and added an R for 600, and the S's to pick up a free spin. He bought the E's, then spun and picked B, which wasn't in the puzzle. He decided to hold onto his free spin. Honoria took over, holding a free spin of her own from the prior round, but couldn't put any T's in the puzzle. She decided to use her free spin, only to miss with H as well. Prometheus added G, L, C, and 2 P's before trying to solve, but doing so incorrectly. Nolepaul hit a Lose a Turn on his spin, and Lynnea also hit one, giving the puzzle back to Asterix. He put the final consonant, K, in the puzzle, then solved - sunglasses and a red peaked cap - for 500 points.

Our third puzzle was a 5 word title (11, 3, 10, 2, and 7 letters), with Honoria getting to start it, carrying over a free spin, and our hour running down. An N, three S's and three T's tallied up 2600 points for her. She bought the E's and A's, both of which were in the puzzle, right before a Bankrupt wiped out her points. She decided to use her free spin there and continued with her turn, getting back 1600 with four H's and another 200 with a C. She bought the O's and U's, added two R's for 100 each, then missed with a P, ending her turn. Prometheus added an F for 300, then missed with a D, turning the puzzle over to Nolepaul. Nolepaul landed on a free spin and picked it up with a pair of L's. He added two Y's for 100 each on his next spin, then landed on another free spin, but missed with an M. Nolepaul used the free spin he did get to spin again, and picked up 750 more points with a G, leaving only vowels, and he solved - Chushingura, The Storehouse of Loyalty - for 950 points.

I offered one more puzzle, and the players took me up on it, so our final puzzle tonight was a two-word place (9 and 6 letters). Lynnea got to start it. She got 600 for a T, bought the E's, then missed with an R. Asterix took over with a free spin in hand, but couldn't find an S, nor an M after using his free spin. Honoria took over and scored 1400 for two H's. She asked to buy an a, but I mistook it for an O and revealed the O's before the players pointed out my mistake. I revealed the requested A's, and left the O's, which had already been shown, and Honoria decided to solve the puzzle there, and she did - Chocolate Heaven - to win Round 4 for 1150 points.

I added up the scores, and the final tallies were:

Nolepaul: 2450
Honoria: 1150
Asterix: 500

Congratulations to our winners tonight, and Nolepaul for being our big winner! Join me again on March 21 for our next edition of the Fed Phrase Game, and on March 14 for FEDPARDY!, both in Studio 1 on the Lattice.
