FROM THE POSTBAG: OVER-EAGER TAXMAN

You can avoid death if you keep your insurance up to date (and there are ways to keep your insurance down too) but you can't avoid taxes in Fed II DataSpace. One of our readers was distressed by what seemed to be over-eagerness on behalf of the taxman, but instead of complaining to the revenuers or picketing the Galactic Administration offices, she decided to send a letter to her favorite newspaper. Yes, we mean the Fed II Star! Here's what she wrote:

I am writing to report that for some reason this afternoon the second time I logged in I was taxed. I thought you only got taxed the first time you logged in!

No, that's not the way it works. You will only get taxed once a day, and normally this is the first time you log in after the reset. However, if on that log in your balance is not high enough to reach the tax threshold, you will not be taxed at that time - but the taxman will keep on checking the balance every time you log on, so if you are over the limit later the tax will be levied then.

And don't think you can avoid this by staying logged on... eventually, you will have to leave, even if only at the next day's reset, and when you come back he'll grab your excess profits then! What, you didn't think there was a way to avoid the greedy grasping claws of the taxman, did you?
