FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday January 10
by Fancy-Fancy

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of the Fed Phrase Game. Santana, Prometheus, and Squeeky all came to play. As each of them already knew how to play, we got right to the game, starting with determining the order in which they would play (Squeeky, then Santana, then Prometheus), and then the first puzzle of the night, 4 word things (5, 5, 7, and 8 letters).

Squeeky got to start our first puzzle, and racked up 5950 points before a missing N stopped its turn. Santana took over and accumulated 3450 points in three spins, then decided to solve - small multi-colored crystals - to win Round 1 for 3450 points.

Prometheus got to start tonight's second puzzle, which was a 6 word thing (1, 6, 5, 8, 5, and 7 letters). He found 4 T's, bought the A's, placed a couple R's, two S's, bought the O's, and found 3 N's, taking his total to 3900 before he chose an F not in the puzzle. Squeeky took over, but couldn't find any M's. Santana promptly hit a Bankrupt on his first spin, followed by a Lose a Turn on Prometheus' next spin. Squeeky started finding letters again with its second chance at the puzzle, finding a P, E's, G, L, I's, and C's before a missing D ended its turn. Santana finally landed on a number, but there were no B's for him to take advantage. Prometheus got another turn, but this time hit a Bankrupt, wiping out his points, and giving the puzzle back to Squeeky. Squeeky correctly picked H, then bought the U's, and then filled in the final letter with a W, then read the puzzle to solve it - a trough which contains nutri-pellets - for 3550 points.

Santana got to start our third puzzle, which was a 2 word place (6 and 6 letters). He started off revealing an S in the puzzle, but couldn't take advantage of 1000 on the next spin with N, since there weren't any. Prometheus took over and placed a T for 750, two R's for 1000 each, and an L for 450, then bought the E's, making the puzzle look like this:

__tler S___re

Prometheus missed with an H on his next spin, turning it over to Squeeky, who in turn missed with a P. Santana got the puzzle back and placed a B at the beginning for 1000, and then bought an O, but there weren't any in the puzzle. Prometheus took over the puzzle again and called a Q, leaving only vowels, and solved - Butler Square - to win Round 3 for 3250 points.

We had time for one more puzzle tonight, and just 300 points separated first from third going into it. The puzzle was a 3 word person (9, 9, and 9 letters), and Squeeky got to start the puzzle. Squeeky's first spin was a Lose a Turn, though, so Santana effectively started it, promptly landing on a Free Spin, and picking it up with R's in the puzzle. He called L on his next spin, but there were none, and he decided to use his free spin to continue his turn, only to land on a Bankrupt with it. Prometheus took over, uncovering a T for 500, then landing on a free spin and picking it up with the S's. His next spin was a Lose a Turn, and Prometheus also decided to use his free spin, only to promptly land on another Lose a Turn. Squeeky landed on 400, but there were no D's. Santana found a P for 150 points, only to hit a Bankrupt right after that. Prometheus took over with 500 points and started adding to them. He placed an F, bought the O's, placed H's, bought E's, and then picked up a free spin with an M. With that available to him, he went for more points, and got them with a C and N before picking up another free spin with the final consonant left in the puzzle, a K. Prometheus solved successfully - Professor Catherine Shoemaker - to take Round 4 with 1900 points. That brought us to the end of tonight's game.

I tallied up the scores and in third place tonight with 3450 points was Santana. Our runner up was Squeeky with 3550 points. And tonight's big winner was Prometheus with a total of 5150 points. Congratulations to all, and thanks for playing. We'll play the Phrase Game again on January 24, beginning at 10.00pm eastern. Join me then in Studio 1 for the game.

Fedpardy is also coming up there in Studio 1 on January 17. Join me for that on Tuesday night at 10.00pm eastern.
