In order to promote to the next rank you simply have to run the company for at least 3 accounting cycles, having spent at least 24 hours online to manage the company. Both those measures are shown on the company display. If you don't spend enough time logged on to achieve the necessary 24 hours, then you will be promoted automatically when your company completes 5 accounting cycles - you cannot stay an Industrialist indefinitely! In both cases, the promotion will happen at the next reset after you meet the requirements. As a Manufacturer, things get much more interesting.
