FEDTERM MANUAL - PLAYING FEDERATION 2 WITH FEDTERM

CARRYING OUT ACTIONS ON A PLAYER

Selecting a Player

Clicking on a name in the player list selects that player; the name will be highlighted.

If you have selected the name of a player, and you are typing in the input buffer, then pressing 'Ctrl-Shift-Space' will transfer the name of the selected player into your input buffer. Double clicking on the name of a player in the right hand window will also transfer the name into the input buffer. 'Ctrl-Space' puts the command 'TELL playername ' into the input box.

Note that FedTerm doesn't send anything to the game - it is up to you to type in the text to complete your command and then press return.

Right clicking on the player list will bring up a menu with various options which will issue commands using the selected player:

Hug/Kiss

These items send the game a 'HUG playername' and a 'KISS playername' command respectively where 'playername' is the name of the selected person. Both hugs and kisses can be sent over your comm unit to people who are not in the same room as you.

Tight Beam

This sets up a private conversation with the named player. The panel at the top of the screen switches to the TB display and messages to and from the selected player are repeated here, giving you a record of the conversation separated out from the other text the game is sending you. If you have a picture of the player you are talking to, it will display in the window, otherwise a standard interference picture will be shown.

When you select the menu item, the string 'TELL playername ' is put into your input window, where 'playername' is the name of the selected player. You can then type the text of your first message and press return to send it.

Note that a private conversation will only be displayed in this panel if it is started using the player menu - if you simply type the 'TELL...' command FedTerm won't do this.

If you select a new name from the player list and set up a tight beam conversation, the text from the old conversation will be removed from the panel and replaced with the new conversation. You can also close a conversation by clicking on the 'End TB' button.

The tight beam messages still go into the main window as well, so they are included in the buffered text for scrollback, and they get logged if you have logging turned on.

Examine

Sends the game an 'EX playername' command, where 'playername' is the name of the person currently selected in the player list. if you don't have anyone selected in the list, you will get an error message. Obviously the game will complain if you aren't in the same location as the person you are examining.

The description of the player will be displayed in the panel at the top, with the appropriate character portrait (if you have it). The description won't go on the main screen, but it will be added to the story page, so will be included in logs.

You can also examine a player (or an object or mobile) by double-clicking on the name in the location panel at the top left. The resulting text will be displayed in the main screen.

Spynet

This asks for a 'SPYNET REPORT' on the selected player. The information will be displayed in the panel at the top, with the appropriate character portrait (if you have it). The spynet details won't go on the main screen, but it will be added to the story page, so will be included in logs.
