FEDERATION 2 EVENTS - FED PHRASE GAME

Fed Phrase Game is the Wheel of Fortune for Fed! On each turn, you choose to spin the wheel, buy a vowel, pass a turn, or solve the puzzle.

When you spin the wheel, it could land on any of the 25 spaces, which range from 100 points to 1000 points. There are also special trouble spaces – Bankrupt and Lose a Turn - and the Free Spin space. If the wheel stops on Free Spin, you must find a letter in the puzzle to win the Free Spin. A "spin" on your turn may consist of actually spinning the wheel, buying a vowel, or solving the puzzle.

Your choices:
When your turn comes around, you will be given four choices: SPIN the wheel, BUY a vowel, PASS your turn, or SOLVE the puzzle!

Spinning the Wheel:
If you choose to spin the wheel, then you do just that, and take pot luck as to the outcome.

Picking a Letter:
Before you are able to take a guess at a letter in the puzzle, you must first spin the wheel as above. Assuming you do not land on a Bankrupt space or a Lose a Turn space, you will then be able to choose a letter. If you guess a letter and it is not in the puzzle, then your turn will be over and the next player in the list will be up. If you guess a letter that is in the puzzle, then you will receive the number of points indicated by the wheel after you span it, multiplied by the number of times the letter appears in the phrase. These points are added to your score for the current round.

Buying a Vowel:
Vowels cost 250 points, deducted from your current round score - if you don't have that many points, you cannot buy a vowel. The vowel you guess will be revealed in the puzzle, although if the vowel does not appear in the puzzle, you still get those points deducted. If the vowel does appear in the puzzle, you can have another go.

Passing Your Turn:
If you pass your turn, you are simply forfeiting your turn to the next player in line.

Trouble Spaces:
If you land on a Bankrupt space when you spin the wheel, you lose all your current round points, and your turn is over. If you land on a Lose a Turn space, you don't lose any points but your turn is over. A Free Spin will allow you another spin to continue your turn, and can be used to spin, to buy a vowel or to solve the puzzle.

Solving the Puzzle:
If you know the puzzle, and wish to solve on your turn, then all you need to do is say the answer. If you are wrong, your turn is over. If you guess correctly, then you win the round, and your current round points will be added to your total for the game. All round points are set back to zero for the next round. Only the player who correctly solves the puzzle will earn any game points for the round.

The Points System:
There are two types of points: Round points are accumulated during a round, by guessing letters correctly. Game points are earned for solving a puzzle correctly.

Winning the Game:
At the end of the game, the player with the most game points wins; the next two highest scorers are the runners-up.

Player Numbers:
If the number of players turning out to play is so great that the host has doubts that everyone will get a chance at the puzzles, then the host has the option of invoking the following limits on how many moves a player gets per turn:

A player may spin the wheel three times per turn, and buy one vowel without it counting against his or her spins. If a player buys more than one vowel during a turn, then subsequent vowels will count as a spin. When a player's spins for a turn are used up, the player will have the option of trying to solve the puzzle or pass to the next player in the order.

A Free Spin only gives the player one spin – not a new series of three.
